Malta Pride 2018: Pride Week Events Taking Place In Malta
- Sep 6, 2018
Are you visiting Malta for Pride Week this September?
Malta is undoubtedly one of the most culturally accepting islands of the LGBTQ community, remaining at first place on the ILGA Europe’s Rainbow Map for LGBTQ Equality Rights. The vast majority of the Maltese people are the most gracious and welcoming hosts and that’s why the Pride Parade & Celebration of Malta, that begins on Friday 14th September is such a popular event among locals and tourists.
Last year, Malta Pride attracted over 2500 guests where a spectacular procession marched through the streets, with open air parties, colourful performances and fun celebrations.
What’s On During Malta Pride 2018
On Friday 14th September of this year, the S2S Gay Pride Party is being thrown at Gianpula Village and on Sunday 16thSeptember, the Pride Pool Party is taking place at Aria Complex. The pool parties are a great way to celebrate and meet new people. Saturday 15th September, however, will feature the main highlight of the weekend – the Pride Parade and Concert. Starting at 4pm, the concert will be held at Herbert Ganado Gardens right after the multicoloured march. There will be a fantastic display of floats, dancers, street performers and costumes. A gigantic rainbow flag measuring over 80ft will be unveiled along with a host of other exciting surprises.
The gardens in which the fantastic concert will be held are blessed with the idyllic views of Valletta’s Grand Harbour, and will feature a big stage, a chillout area and a mixture of kiosks for the evening, making the event one of the most iconic events of the year.
Live Music During Malta Pride 2018
Headlining the concert will be the Maltese born performer, Amber, who since finding fame on the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest, has gone on to become successful in multiple countries. She has performed at sell-out shows in the UK, Austria, Russia and of course, Malta, duetting with the likes of Ronan Keating and Gigi D’Alessio. In 2016, Amber sang at the Isle of MTV concert alongside Wiz Khalifa, Jess Glynne and Clean Bandit. It’s safe to say that she’s going to put on one amazing show at Malta Pride this year that will get everybody on their feet!
Another act performing at Malta Pride is Dwett, a fabulous duo made up of Cherylis and Mikhail, who you might recognise from the 2016 show ‘Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza.’ Other artists include singer song-writer Lyndsay Pace who is no stranger to performing at festivals across Malta, Karma B, Norbert Bondin, Stefan, Michela Galea and many many more!
Entrance to Malta Pride will be completely free, however donations towards the LGBTQ Community Projects are encouraged; so dig deep in your pockets if you enjoy the events to make sure Malta Pride can grow and support the community for years to come.
