How about bringing home something a little more useful?
Malta is full of classic souvenirs, in particular our famous Mdina glass. There are many different trinkets and tokens you could bring home to remember your holiday by, but how about bringing home something a little more useful and meaningful? Malta creates some beautiful clothing and if you purchase something from a local designer, you can be sure that it’s going to be a unique piece when you wear it in your home country.
Here are some of the most popular fashion shops in Malta for you to choose from:
Charles & Ron in Republic Street, Valletta
Charles & Ron is where the locals shop for their much-loved handbags. Charles & Ron have exhibited their collection at Buckingham Palace alongside Stella McCartney and Burberry. Their monogram logo is a key part of the design of their eclectic bags. Bright colours and studs are featured often too. The quality is excellent, the bags are made in Malta from real leather and cost around €200 each. Their logo print tees and sweatshirts are popular too and can be found at their Republic Street shop and the entire collection of clothes and accessories is available on their website too.
Gagliardi at The Point, Sliema
As well as being found in one of Malta’s favourite shopping malls “The Point”, Gagliardi stores can also be found in St Julian’s and Valletta too. It is a high-end menswear shop and the perfect place to find a sharp suit or blazer made from luxury materials. There’s a huge amount of choice, including shirts and shoes to match. The range is affordable – prices start from around £250 for a suit, up to about £595 for materials such as cashmere.
Saz Mifsud stocked in Valletta & Attard
Saz Mifsud is a local designer of beautiful silk scarves. These can be purchased direct online, or are stocked in two designer boutiques in Malta – Eclecticist in Attard, or Valletta Contemporary in East Street, Valletta. The designs are bright and colourful and often feature wild animals. The scarves make a great gift and are a wardrobe staple for any season.
Luke Azzopardi by appointment
If you’re looking for a couture dress for a very special occasion, this is the man to contact in Malta. He makes magnificent bridal wear and evening gowns and is only available by appointment. Based in Gozo. You can see his Instagram page to get a feel for his work.
And more!
As well as the above-mentioned specific designers, there is an excellent choice of independent fashion boutiques in Malta if you want to shop around for the perfect items. As well as native Maltese designers, you can also find unique pieces from our neighbouring Italian designers too, as of course, we are not too far from world fashion capital Milan, which inspires many of our up and coming designers.
Where to stay in Malta?
If you’re looking for a shopping trip to remember, then make sure you stay somewhere special in Malta too. Valletta is the capital city and it’s easy to travel to the popular hubs Sliema & St Julian’s. Why not stay in a designer boutique hotel like Casa Ellul too, to get a real feeling of luxury and extravagance. Perhaps the Piano Nobile suite or the very elegant Suite 9 will suit your mood!
