Malta – One Of The Safest Countries To Visit During The COVID Pandemic

Malta has been lauded by international institutions such as the European Commission, the Commonwealth, the World Health Organisation and the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, as one of the top countries that handled the COVID-19 situation well. In addition to managing to contain the pandemic and having very few death cases, restaurants, hotels, and other establishments have now reopened. 

Bouncing Back From Pandemic

At the time of writing (June 25, 2020) the southern Mediterranean archipelago had 665 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 624 recoveries. Malta’s free healthcare system and highly trained healthcare personnel served as a prominent national resource during the peak of the pandemic, with more than 90,000 swab tests being carried out since March – equivalent to a quarter of Malta’s total population. 

On June 18, the Maltese government officially announced that as from July 1, Malta’s Airport is going to reopen to approximately 24 European destinations without the 14-day quarantine measure that was previously in place. As from July 15, the country will lift all restrictions and enable flights from all other destinations. 

Arrivals from the Phase 1 countries will be subjected to thermal screening and will also be required to fill out a self-declaration form that they have not visited any of the non-approved countries. Phase 1 airports and countries include: Italy (except for Emilia Romagna, Lombardy and Piemonte), France (except for Ile de France), Spain (except for Madrid, Catalonia, Castilla-La Mancha, Castile and Leon), Poland (except for Katowice Airport), Greece, Croatia, Germany, Austria, Sicily, Cyprus, Switzerland, Sardegna, Iceland,

Slovakia, Norway, Denmark, Hungary, Finland, Ireland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Luxembourg and the Czech Republic.
