Malta – One Of The Safest Countries To Visit During The COVID Pandemic

  • Jun 25, 2020

...one of the top countries that handled the COVID-19 situation well!

Malta has been lauded by international institutions such as the European Commission, the Commonwealth, the World Health Organisation and the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, as one of the top countries that handled the COVID-19 situation well. In addition to managing to contain the pandemic and having very few death cases, restaurants, hotels, and other establishments have now reopened.

Bouncing Back From Pandemic

At the time of writing (June 25, 2020) the southern Mediterranean archipelago had 665 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 624 recoveries. Malta’s free healthcare system and highly trained healthcare personnel served as a prominent national resource during the peak of the pandemic, with more than 90,000 swab tests being carried out since March – equivalent to a quarter of Malta’s total population.

On June 18, the Maltese government officially announced that as from July 1, Malta’s Airport is going to reopen to approximately 24 European destinations without the 14-day quarantine measure that was previously in place. As from July 15, the country will lift all restrictions and enable flights from all other destinations.

Arrivals from the Phase 1 countries will be subjected to thermal screening and will also be required to fill out a self-declaration form that they have not visited any of the non-approved countries. Phase 1 airports and countries include: Italy (except for Emilia Romagna, Lombardy and Piemonte), France (except for Ile de France), Spain (except for Madrid, Catalonia, Castilla-La Mancha, Castile and Leon), Poland (except for Katowice Airport), Greece, Croatia, Germany, Austria, Sicily, Cyprus, Switzerland, Sardegna, Iceland,

Slovakia, Norway, Denmark, Hungary, Finland, Ireland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Luxembourg and the Czech Republic.

Summer 2020 Destination: Malta

Visiting Malta this summer ensures a unique experience: the beaches are not going to be as packed as they usually are, and Malta’s prime attractions can be visited without much queuing. With fewer tourists, Malta is set to return to its roots as an island paradise with significantly less traffic and less overcrowding.

Public transport vehicles and taxis will be operating as per usual but with increased sanitation, meaning that you can rest assured that you can visit every corner of the island without having to worry about any possible infections. Moreover, the Malta Tourism Authority went the extra mile. It inspected all establishments before they were allowed to reopen, and awarded a “Certified Compliant” certificate to those that passed the necessary tests.

Where To Stay?

If you’re looking for a COVID-19 compliant hotel that promises hygiene, safety, exclusivity and hospitality, look no further! Casa Ellul is one of the top boutique hotels on the island, and it’s easy to see why.

Situated in the heart of Malta’s capital, this Valletta boutique hotel is minutes away from all amenities and attractions. Furthermore, upscale sophistication is not only reflected in its style of decor, but also in the way that the staff caters to each and every guest’s needs and whims.

With all these measures in place, you can finally relax and enjoy a summer holiday like no other.
