Malta 4-Day Itinerary

Visiting Malta without a plan? We get you – sometimes life gets in the way and prevents you from planning your trip properly. Fortunately, here is a four-day Malta itinerary that hits all the right notes. 

Day 1 – Valletta

Pick up your luggage and Bolt your way to Valletta. Check in at Casa Ellul and settle in. Then, head over to the Upper Barrakka Gardens, just in time for the noon battery salute. Spend some time exploring the beautiful gardens, before heading off for lunch at Cafe Jubilee.

After indulging in a delicious plate of ravioli, head over to St John’s Cathedral – one of Europe’s greatest examples of the high baroque architectural movement. Inside the church, you can feast your eyes on several masterpieces, including Caravaggio’s “Beheading of St John.”

After the Co-Cathedral, take some time to explore Republic Street and the area around Palace Square and the Grand Master’s Palace. Finally, head to the Valletta Waterfront for a lovely dinner in one of its restaurants, and enjoy the sunset over a glass of bubbly.

Day 2 – Cospicua & Vittoriosa

Kick off day two with an artisan cappuccino from Valletta’s Lot Sixty One. Then, head to the Valletta Waterfront to take the ferry to Cospicua. Once you arrive, wander around Cospicua and walk to the neighbouring city of Vittoriosa. 

Explore Vittoriosa’s nooks and crannies by getting lost in the city. Alternatively, if you want to visit some museums, the Inquisitor’s Palace, Malta at War Museum or Malta Maritime Museum are great options. Grab a bite from BeBirgu, before heading back to Valletta via ferry. 

Day 3 – Gozo

Visiting Gozo is a must! Head over to Valletta’s Grand Harbour to take the ferry to Gozo. It’s a wonderful journey, and best of all, it only takes 45 minutes!

Once you arrive in Gozo, make your way to Gozo’s capital, Victoria, by boarding bus 301. Once you arrive in Victoria, head over to the old centre and explore St. George’s Square, Independence Square, and finally, the fortified area of Cittadella. 

Grab a bite from one of Independence Square’s restaurants and cafes, before going back to the bus terminal. Take bus number 311 to Dwejra. Here, you can enjoy Gozo’s crystal clear waters and appreciate Dwejra’s dramatic rock formations. You can even take a dip! From Dwejra, book a taxi that takes you directly to Mgarr. From here, take the ferry back to Valletta. 

Day 4 -Rabat & Mdina

Spend your last day in Rabat and Mdina. Head to Valletta’s bus terminus to take the bus to Mdina. Alternatively, use a cab service, such as Bolt, Bonju or Cool. Go-to sites in Mdina include the Mdina Gate, St Paul’s Cathedral and Museum, the Mdina Dungeons, as well as its various palazzos. 

After wandering around the Silent City, head over to “Serkin Crystal Palace Bar” for some tea and traditional Maltese pastizzi. Bid adieu to Malta and take a cab to the airport.
