The start line of the Rolex Middle Sea Race is exhilarating…Our boutique hotel, located in Valletta, is a stone’s throw from the Grand Harbour and Marsamxett Creek, making it a perfect spot to stay if you would like to watch this race.
The harbours cater for leisure cruisers, tourist boats and cruise ships, as well as military craft and rescue services. It’s the Rolex Middle Sea race though that steals the show each October. Around 100 boats from 28ft to 100ft compete in the race which leaves the Grand Harbour on the third Saturday and race around the island of Sicily with a few of its smaller isles to navigate before returning to Malta anything from 48 hours to 5 days later.
We can arrange for you to be at the start line with a picnic, or in the gardens where the cannons signal the start of this magnificent classic. Rub shoulders with the who’s who of Maltese society and the International press, and try to contain your shrieks when you see the boats of Prada and Hugo Boss jostle to be the first over the start line.
The event builds up over a two week period and the coastal races the week preceding are a calmer way to see these beauties in action. Spot the owners on the choppers arriving to take the helm from the terrace of your luxury suite; go to the renowned crew party where 1000 international sailors and crew party till dawn at the Royal Malta Yacht Club.
