- Jan 4, 2022
Shopping in Valletta, Sliema & St.Julian's!
Malta is brimming with small boutiques, multi-level plazas and international brand outlets. Therefore, if you’re thinking of benefiting from this year’s January sales, book your trip to Malta pronto and visit the following cities and outlets.
Shopping in Valletta
If you love independent brands, Malta’s capital – Valletta – should be at the top of your list. Valletta is a fashionista’s paradise, as brands like Charles & Ron and MVintage will add a Mediterranean flair to your wardrobe.
Charles & Ron is a contemporary lifestyle and high-end clothing brand, spearheaded by Charles and Ron van Maarschalkerweerd Borg. The self-taught designers have come a long way since meeting in Amsterdam in 1992. Their collections have been featured at New York and Los Angeles fashion weeks. Celebrities such as Jessie J, Kelly Rowland and Ally Brooke have also endorsed their work.
Who needs Paris when you can shop French-inspired clothes in the heart of the Mediterranean? Live your best Emily in Paris life by shopping at Perruche; a French couture boutique in Valletta that fuses French and distinctly Mediterranean aesthetics.
Another local shop is the aptly-named Il-lokal (literally, the local). It features more than 2000 products made by Malta and Malta-based creatives.
MVintage is another Maltese designer brand that’s now a household name. Best of all, the team has managed to create a community of empowered women that want to create and inspire.
In addition to these local shops, there are also a wide range of high street retailers concentrated in Republic Street and Merchant Street. These include Tommy Hilfiger, Marks & Spencer’s, Levi’s and Fred Perry – to name but a few.
Shopping in Sliema
Sliema is Malta’s own Manhattan – with a multitude of clothing shops, cafes, restaurants and high-rise buildings. Plaza Shopping Complex was Malta’s first shopping mall, and is still thriving today. It houses more than 30 brands, including Swarovski, Stivaletti and Promod.
The Point Shopping Mall is Malta’s largest shopping mall, with around 15,000m2 of retail floor space spread over three levels. The mall is unique in that it houses many shops across a range of budgets and styles; including Guess, Calvin Klein, Adidas and Pull & Bear.
Shopping in St.Julians
Bay Street Shopping Complex is St Julians’ main shopping district. It offers a mix of high street brands, quality independent shops, restaurants, services, family entertainment and even a four star hotel. Brands include Guess, Jennyfer, Kiko, Springfield, Sketchers and Terranova. Safe to say this variety makes for a very interesting shopping experience!
