- Apr 16, 2017
Explore Valletta like a local and visit these exquisite boutique shops for some quirky shopping whilst in Malta!
Shopping may not be the first thing that springs to mind when thinking of Malta. With the legacy of its blown glass, silver filigree and gold jewellery, Malta has changed in recent years as its designers and artisans are now running stores in the capital city of Valletta.
If you are a follower of fashion, you can’t have missed Charles & Ron who have been the nation’s favourite for a few years but have suddenly taken the fashion world by storm. Their flagship store is prominently placed off St Georges Square, their window displays enticing you in from both Republic Street and Archbishop Street.
Blush & Panic is a pseudo retro store with clothes and accessories made in the style of vintage fashion with a rack of originals at the back. This is situated near the must not miss lunch spot of Da Pippo.
You’re not far now from Que, a fabulous costume jewellery store whose maker works and sells items in the Merchant Street shop. Closer to St John’s Co Cathedral, which you are almost certain to visit while here, is Cekcik, a quirky shop full of things you didn’t know you (or your friends) needed.
There are also artisan fairs and markets which are usually held over a weekend; here smaller stalls sell beadwork, unique items of clothing, jewellery and nik naks for the home. They also hold seasonal markets just in time to treat yourself for Mother’s Day, Easter or Christmas.
The iconic Mdina Glass is available from many places in Malta and should you wish to have something specific made, we can organize this to happen for you and have it shipped, so its arrival home coincides with yours.
You’ll see some works in our boutique hotel of various artists in Malta too. Come and be inspired, and indulge.
