Valletta Christmas Celebrations 2021
- Dec 4, 2021
Tis the season!
There’s no better time to visit Valletta than Christmastime. The streets transform into a hub of bright lights, Christmas carols and good cheer…not to mention the busy shoppers and families filling Valletta’s restaurants and shopping malls for a spot of Christmas shopping and hot chocolate.
A couple of well-organised, family-friendly activities also amplify the city’s Yuletide spirits. Whether you’re Christmas-obsessed or a self-proclaimed Scrooge, they’re well worth a visit!
Christmas in the City
Location: Valletta
Dates: 22nd November – 6th December
Visitors can enjoy a humongous Christmas tree in Freedom Square, Christmas lights in Republic Street, Merchants Street and Archbishop Street, as well as the crib next to St John’s Co-Cathedral.
Fairyland – Santa’s City
Location: Triton Fountain, Valletta
Dates: 3rd December – 2nd January
The Triton Fountain area has been transformed into a Christmas village for children and adults alike. Among the attractions, there’s Rudolph’s Wheel – a Christmas-themed Ferris wheel that provides the best bird’s eye view of the city, an ice rink, lots of Christmas food and drinks, and most importantly, Santa Claus himself!
The Valletta Waterfront Christmas Wonderland
Location: Valletta Waterfront
Dates: 27th November – 6th January
What better way to bring your family together than by indulging in a delicious meal at one of Valletta Waterfront’s restaurants? The Waterfront will be adorned with a 35-foot Christmas tree, Santa’s house, a traditional Maltese crib, a massive gingerbread man, a handmade Nutcracker Soldier and more. Additionally, the Waterfront team has organised a packed calendar of Christmas activities including live entertainment, photo opportunities with Santa Claus and Mrs Claus and elves on stilts.
Christmas Eve in Valletta
A traditional Maltese celebration of Christmas eve includes midnight mass at one of Valletta’s many churches and chapels, early Christmas breakfast and last-minute gift shopping. Alternatively, reserve a table at a restaurant in Valletta, and feast on turkey, Christmas pudding, honey rings and wine.
